Alba Sanchez Wilcox was born in 1953 in Havana, Cuba. In 1959, the existing dictator of Cuba, Batista, was overthrown and Cuba became a Communist state. Life took on a radical change. Food and clothing were rationed. Private schools and churches were closed down. Her father was imprisoned for a short time because of his faith. In 1962, Alba and her family left Cuba for the United States. With the sponsorship of Sandia Baptist Church they relocated to Albuquerque, New Mexico. They were the first Cuban family in that town. In 1991, Gary and Alba, along with their daughter Miriam moved to El Paso where Gary became the worship leader at Jesus Chapel East, and they both taught at Jesus Chapel School. The January of 2000, the Wilcoxes began pastoring in the border community of Ft. Hancock, Texas. Since 2001, Alba has served as the principal and administrator of Jesus Chapel School. In 2002, Gary and Alba began Restoration Fellowship with 14 people. Today, Restoration Fellowship has grown to an average attendance of over 200. Gary and Alba are also active today as counselors, conference speakers, and as the consultants for “Partners for Life”, a marriage initiative of the Head Start program in El Paso, Texas for at risk families. Alba is also on the executive committee for International Christian Accrediting Association, and a site chairman for the accreditation of Christian schools throughout the United States, Mexico, Central and South America. |
